Net-and-blow insulation offers superior performance, faster installation, and better long-term value compared with traditional batt or loose-fill methods. Here’s why property owners, contractors, and building managers choose net-and-blow for attic and enclosed space insulation projects.

What net-and-blow is

  • Net-and-blow installs loose-fill insulation (fiberglass or cellulose) into attic cavities over a suspended netting system. The net holds insulation in place, enabling precise depth control and continuous coverage across joists, baffles, and irregular framing without compressing the material.

Key benefits

  • Continuous, seamless coverage: Netting prevents gaps and voids that commonly occur with batts or DIY blown-in installs. Continuous coverage across rafters, recessed fixtures, and odd cavities reduces thermal bridging and air infiltration.

  • Proper density and R-value retention: Net-and-blow allows technicians to set and maintain the correct insulation density. That preserves the material’s rated R-value over time, unlike improperly installed batts that can sag or compressed fiberglass that loses effectiveness.

  • Faster, cleaner installation: Install crews can work from the attic floor without dragging batts into place or cutting around obstacles. That reduces installation time, jobsite mess, and the risk of damaging air barriers or vapor retarders.

  • Ideal for retrofits and existing structures: Net-and-blow is particularly effective when upgrading older homes where ceilings and framing are irregular or when existing wiring, ducts, and fixtures make batt installation impractical.

How it differs from other methods

  • Versus batt insulation: Batts require exact cutting and compression around framing, often leaving gaps and reducing R-value when compressed. Net-and-blow delivers continuous fill and avoids compression losses, particularly in irregular cavities.

  • Versus standard blown-in without netting: Traditional blown-in in open attics can settle or shift and is hard to control over joists or in finished ceilings. Netting secures the fill, ensuring consistent depth and performance in finished or enclosed assemblies.

  • Versus spray foam: Spray foam provides excellent air sealing and high R-value per inch but at significantly higher cost and with potential for off-gassing if not

Batts insulation offers a cost-effective, reliable way to improve comfort, reduce energy bills, and meet building code requirements. At RMS Insulation LLC, our trained technicians install fiberglass and mineral wool batts precisely to maximize thermal performance and minimize air leakage and moisture issues.

Why choose batt insulation?

  • Proven performance: Batts deliver consistent R-values per inch, helping maintain indoor temperatures and lowering heating and cooling costs.

  • Fast installation: Pre-cut batts fit standard stud, joist, and rafter spacing, allowing quicker completion than blown-in alternatives in many applications.

  • Cost-effective: Lower material and labor costs make batts an economical choice for both new construction and retrofit projects.

  • Fire-resistant options: Mineral wool batts offer enhanced fire resistance and sound control for added safety and comfort.

  • Health and code compliant: Properly installed batts meet building codes and, when handled and installed correctly, provide a safe indoor environment.

We Spray Foam ALSO!!!!

Spray foam provides excellent insulation, air sealing, moisture resistance, and long-term energy savings. It reduces drafts, heat transfer, HVAC load, and utility bills by expanding to fill gaps and adhere to surfaces, preventing air leakage and blocking dust, pollen, and pollutants. Properly installed, it resists water, controls condensation and mold, and maintains R-value without sagging. It also dampens sound, can add structural stiffness, and enables tighter envelopes that often allow smaller, more efficient HVAC systems.

Common kinds of spray foam and their typical uses

Closed-cell spray foam

Rigid, closed-cell foam (density ~1.7–2.0+ lb/ft³) that resists water and vapor and adds strength. R-value: about R-6 to R-7 per inch. Best uses: exterior walls, roof decks, crawlspaces, basements, and tight cavities needing moisture protection or higher R-value; good for flood-prone areas or when extra structural support is wanted. Advantages: high insulation per inch, blocks air and moisture (and sometimes vapor), adds rigidity and structural capacity, and helps prevent bulk water intrusion when detailed correctly.
